Stress can get in the way of many things during everyday life, but it doesn’t have to be that way. There are a number of things you can do to combat this.

Try to implement one, or a combination, of the five tips below into your daily routine and see if it works for you. You never know, it might just work…

Eat mood-boosting foods

Honestly, who doesn’t love to eat their favourite snacks? It makes you feel so happy and calm. Eating cookies, candy, ice cream and more indulgent carbohydrates boosts your mood almost instantly. You should eat them in the correct portion size however, because eating too much could stress you out as well.

Get good sleep

The more you sleep, the better your mood, fitness, health (including cholesterol) and stress levels will be. For example, sleep can help with weight loss. People who are exhausted tend to have less energy for exercise and healthy meal preparation.

Remember to exercise

No gym membership required, just get out for a walk, take a bike ride or go for a swim. Exercise is an excellent way to relieve stress, so whatever type of physical activity you prefer; go out and do it.

Get outdoors!

If you’re feeling stressed and overwhelmed, there’s nothing like the great outdoors to bring you back to centre. Even before feeling stressed, getting outdoors and being with nature is really good for the mind and body.

Squeeze a stress ball

Any repetitive movement, such as walking, bouncing a ball, drawing and colouring, knitting, or riding a bike, can help you relax. The repetition allows your mind to focus on the activity rather than any stressful thoughts or worries.
