Some people simply cannot function without their morning coffee and others need a regular intake throughout the day to stay on form. Of course there are negative side effects of too much caffeine but in general coffee has been shown to have a number of health benefits. These include:

  • improved energy and focus levels
  • improved physical performance by increasing adrenaline levels
  • contains essential nutrients including magnesium and riboflavin
  • can lower risk of type 2 diabetes, dementia and Parkinson’s disease
  • increased fat burning and boost your metabolic rate

When looking at these benefits it is important to remember these come from the coffee itself and not the tasty additions to the coffee such as sugars, syrups, cream etc. If your coffee is packed with sugar then these health benefits are minimal compared to the negative effects brought on by the high sugar levels.

So, do not be afraid to grab that morning coffee get yourself ready for a tough gym session with a pre-workout coffee to get that caffeine boost. Remember like most things coffee should still be consumed in moderation. General guidelines suggest having no more than 4/5 cups of coffee a day depending on caffeine content.  This is largely due to the negative side effects of high caffeine consumption which can include:

  • Anxiety
  • Insomnia
  • Addiction
