On the 12-13 September, Leisure Industry Week opened it’s doors as it’s newly rebranded BP: Fitness Trade Show from the team behind the ever popular BodyPower Expo at the NEC Birmingham.

We had a great time catching up with the Octane Team and test driving some of their new products, in particular the new Air Dyne X upright bike and my personal favourite, the Zero Runner – it replicates the runner motion with zero impact on joints and always allows the analysis of running gait and stride patterns.

Nick, Rob and I also took the opportunity to say hi to some of our other suppliers and came across a few other new products including the new Concept 2 upright bike.

The show had a real focus on education for personal trainers and gym owners with presentations from industry professionals and these talks seemed to flow well through the schedule of the day and were well attended – the inflatable domes they were housed it also brought a fun feel to this element of the day.

Aside from the fitness equipment we’d expect to see on offer, it was refreshing to witness some innovation in other exercise markets; including outdoor gym providers with a great focus on exercise in the playground and encouraging movement from a young age. In addition, waterproof wearable technology was also seen being worn by staff and visitors and could be a real breakthrough for encouraging and tracking water-based exercise and activity.
