The annual ARMA conference took place on Wednesday 18th October and motive8 was there to get the latest on the Property Management sector.

The day kicked off with a special announcement about regulation in the sector from Secretary of State for Communities, the Rt. Hon. Sajid Javid MP, something which will be seen as a reaction to the Grenfell Tragedy but is welcome among most property management companies (or at least the ones I spoke with!). This was followed by a great speech by ARMA CEO, Nigel Glen, about the future growth plans of ARMA and what the plans are for the ARMA Partner scheme; also discussed and presented was a debate on commonhold and whether there is a place for this in the UK property market and an interesting presentation on how technological advances along with competition is driving customer service standards.

The highlight of the day for motive8 was the presentation by Debra Yudolph of Say Consulting about what developers look for from a management company. This is of particular interest to us as although our Gym & Spa Management department ultimately works for a managing agent, not a developer, it is quite often the developer’s expectations that we are expected to meet. The presentation did not disappoint and we left with some really interesting ideas.

The ARMA dinner started soon after the conference which was a great time for us to catch up with clients and contacts in a less formal setting. Dinner was great and the entertainment provided a laugh or two among the crowd but after a long day it was time to head for the train home!
