As highlighted in our recent blog, the subject of mental wellbeing has been particularly prominent in the media over recent weeks. Alongside Mental Health Awareness Week, the topic’s relevance has been accentuated by the London Marathon and both Prince Harry and Lady Gaga highlighting the issues they have personally faced over the years.

As a company focused on health and fitness, it’s important to remember that wellbeing is as much about the mind as it is the body. With this in mind, we asked a few of the motive8 team what they feel are great tips for enjoying a happy and healthy work-life balance.

Chantel Mullix

“Due to a long commute I need energising music to get me raring to go and in a positive happy headspace for 9am. From 8pm I need a work-free zone – down time, me time.”

Richard Moon

“One tip I try and keep to is to prevent bad posture sitting at my desk. I have a trigger to make sure I am resetting my posture every time I open an email. This works well but make sure you have followed the correct procedure to ensure your work station is setup specific to you.”

Nikki Spratley

“Exercise has to be a must! I find swimming twice a week really helps me to clear my head space and focus on what I have to achieve for the day ahead. If I have had a stressful day at work or have big important meetings planned, I find this really helps me to get in the right frame of mind.”

Naomi Smith

“To stay positive I always read a paragraph or two every morning from a book called ‘The Secret’. It’s basically about attracting positive energy into your life; it allows me to start the day off with a good mood and get ready to face the day ahead.”

Laura Alexander

“My tip for good mental wellbeing is a stress ball which sits next to my computer (its actually a pig, with sunglasses) for when the frustrating calls come in. I also try to avoid going on a computer/tablet when I get home and do something active instead, ending the day with a camomile tea to help me sleep.”
