In this post I will be discussing a few sports that allow you to enjoy the outdoors and maintain fitness at the same time. As regular gym goers will know, gyms can be extremely dull and boring – especially when the sun is shining outside.
The following sports allow you to get your heart rate going and top up on your Vitamin D, all at once. Some you can perform alone, and for some you will need a buddy. So, prepare the sun cream and take a look at my top picks!
Whether it’s on the beach or not, volleyball requires a lot of complex movements – such as lunging, jumping and pivoting. Volleyball can be extremely tiring if played on a smooth surface, such as an indoor court, and it’s even more challenging on sand.
Badminton requires a lot of concentration, coordination and accuracy. It involves a lot of quick movements, making it an extremely active sport. I’d strongly recommend wearing sunglasses and/or a sun hat if sunny, as the constant looking up at the sun for the shuttlecock may hurt your eyes!
Frisbee is an effective and enjoyable way to get your heart rate going. Also, it’s a great way to get together with friends and enjoy the weather in the park. Make sure you drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
Playing basketball outdoors is a great way to spend time with your friends and get a golden tan at the same time. This can be done with just two people playing 1 vs 1, or in teams. Most local parks have a half court hoop free to use – so take advantage of it.
Cycling is one of the best ways to improve and maintain your fitness levels, and is a great family activity. Going for a light spin for just 7 minutes can burn up to 50 calories! Again, make sure you top up on sun cream.
