Westminster Bridge, located on the banks of the River Thames sets a new standard for student life in London. Offering a wide range of student accommodation and excellent facilities including communal spaces, a cinema room, gym, swimming pool and free-to-use bicycles to get around town, urbanest Westminster Bridge provides some of the best student living in London.
At the beginning of 2020, motive8 were commissioned by urbanest to re-design an existing gym on the lower ground floor at this popular student development and to upgrade all the equipment. Additional space was allocated to improve the facility, which enabled the motive8 design team to re-configure the space into a modern workout facility.
The design work included the renovation of the new space into different exercise zones providing students with top of the range cardio and resistance equipment plus a multi-functional studio space, perfect for relaxation or high intensity training. The Matrix cardiovascular equipment including treadmills, cross trainers, upright and recumbent bikes, boast touch screen technology enabling access to entertainment, social media and facility communication to help with training and enabling users to reach their fitness goals. The carefully selected space saving Matrix resistance equipment delivers a smooth and efficient workout experience. This equipment is complemented by a selection of Erimus free weights, medicine balls and a boxing bag. A new studio storage space was created for additional fitness equipment to keep the relaxation floor space uncluttered. motive8’s maintenance team continue to service and maintain the equipment on an ongoing basis.
motive8 was only given a very short timeframe to design, install and deliver this facility before students were due back for the Spring term. However, lockdown meant that students are only now returning to this fantastic new facility.
The finished facility is a welcome space for students to escape from their desks, and whether it be for a short weights session, full cardio workout or to stretch out in the relaxation zone.
Following the success of the re-design project, motive8 were commissioned by urbanest to take over full management of the gym in 2023.

From start to finish, Sally Ottewell and the whole team at motive8 have been fantastic. They worked with us to produce a great design for our gym and were very professional throughout the whole process. The variety of equipment provided was perfect for the students, suiting all abilities. The equipment was of the highest quality and was installed on time and as planned. The final result exceeded our expectation, we couldn’t be happier.
Huge thank you to all of the team at motive8 for their support throughout the whole process.
