As motive8’s commitment to corporate social responsibility investment continues, we are very proud to have partnered with JogOn to support their mission to remove one million running shoes from landfill.
Remove running shoes from landfill
Every year it is estimated that at least 33 million running shoes end up in landfill and once there, those shoes stick around for a long time. JogOn Founder, Tony Piedade works with a network of charity partners and NGO’s to distribute these running shoes across 11 hubs around the world to those who need them the most.
In April we launched our partnership to coincide with Earth Day to demonstrate our support for environmental protection and to raise awareness of this year’s Earth Day theme, ‘Invest in our Planet’.
Working with JogOn
Working with JogOn, we have pledged to distribute drop-off containers at five gym and spa facilities across our portfolio of managed residential developments within the UK. Residents are encouraged to drop off their unwanted running shoes. The shoes are then sent to JogOn to be inspected and prepared to be distributed out to their network of partners.
Those EOL (end of life) shoes that are deemed not suitable to be used again are filtered out and terminated in the UK. JogOn are working on a partnership to send these to Waste to Power plants to create electricity.
Ongoing CSR initiatives
Over the next year our gym and spa management teams will be working closely with the management at each site to encourage residents to continue their support with ongoing initiatives, with particular focus around world environment health day and recycle week in the Autumn.
